CADENZA The Dance And Music Academy

Throughout my teens, I studied dance (Bharatnatyam and Kathak) in Gwalior, MP. I won several competitions on state and national levels. In my prabhakar degree of Bharatnatyam I scored highest marks among candidates all over India and was honored by Gold Medal at Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad.

But it was so difficult to carry my passion at professional level since it was pre decided that either I have to become a doctor or an engineer, which I was afraid to pursue…. as my love towards dance was somehow not letting me focus.

After completion of my masters in environmental science, one fine day I have got a call from All India Agrawal Youth Society, Delhi as they wanted to honor me for my work in the field of Performing Arts and later “Maharaza Agrasen National Award” honored me. My Mom & Dad looked at me when I was on the stage and receiving the Award, I had tears in my eyes, I saw them they were very proud and they said that’s enough go ahead and fulfill your dreams, live your passion and that was the day my life was changed.

In 2001, I established my own dance company “Nupur Nritya Kala Kendra” in Gwalior, and developed an innovative, non-traditional techniques that spoke to more hindered forms of movement and emotional expression.

I was working primarily with Kala Samooh 1998; I improved my techniques and began dancing professionally. I worked in many dance & theatre productions like “Mriganayani” A story of a brave queen of King Maansingh, and performed the role of queen Mriganayani. The wild performance as a brave women gathered me an extremely analytical applause.

I took teaching positions at several schools across India and worked as a choreographer for the annual events as a dance teacher or free-lancer. In 2009, I moved to Montreal, Canada with my husband and started working as a freelancer and proved myself as a professional performer and a compassionate teacher.

Recently, I established Cadenza Dance & Music Academy. I believe in accompanying intricate experiments in dance by using different substantial movements from kalaripaittu, Manipuri Marshal Art or Mayurbhanj Chhau not only these but from western countries like Ballroom & Latin Dance Forms.

My vision to showcase a story or a character through vibrating, violent, and trembling movements as these physical expressions gives channel to spiritual and emotional tinges for the audience and performer. Some of my most satisfying choreographies include “Dashavatar,” “Tasher Deshe,” “Navarasa -The Nine Expressions”, “Kittur Rani Chinnamma” and “Essence Of India- The Musical Journey”.
